The first English crystal chandeliers evolved from the 17th century Flemish style of metal chandelier. Large baluster stem pieces and scroll shaped arms were recreated in crystal. Most of the glass will be cut and the arms are generally solid, with the earliest chandeliers having neither canopies nor dressings. Metalwork is usually gilt finished, with silver plated tubes inside to disguise the iron shaft. One of the earliest surviving Georgian chandeliers was made for Thornham Hall, Suffolk in 1732. In the late 1980's Wilkinson’s were commissioned by English Heritage to create a faithful reproduction of this chandelier for Chiswick House, London.

Gdansk Museum chandelier
Produced for Uphagen House the historical museum of Gdansk in Poland, the 10 light moulded crystal chandelier was created based solely on one poor image after the original chandelier was lost during the World War II. Using the original image and that of a similar design from the Georgian period, we were able to recreate all the pieces having them blown in a grey tinted glass similar to that used during the Georgian period.
