Towards the end of the 18th century the influence of architect Robert Adam meant that designs began to take a more slender and elegant form, often featuring the Greek urn shape in the middle of the shaft. Most Adam style chandeliers have two tiers of arms with the upper tier supporting triangular spikes or spires. The solid arms are usually ground with six flat sides and four rows of thumb cuts. The “Van Dyke” style drip pans and candle nozzles are removable and are attached to the arms with metal ferrules. They have both top and bottom canopies and dressings are usually pear shaped buttons with larger pear shaped pendant drops.

  5 branch crystal Adam wall light

  A reproduction of an Adam style wall light typical of the late 18th century. It followed the style of table candelabra’s and they offered a practical solution to lighting larger rooms.

  The wall light has 2 arms wired for electricity and 2 arms with spikes and a central scrolled arm.

  24 light Blue Adam

  Shown is one of a magnificent set of three large Adam style chandeliers in blue lead crystal, each with 24 lights arranged on 2 tiers with an additional 6 upper arms fitted with decorative triangular spikes.

  The largest Adam style chandeliers ever made by the company and were accompanied by a set of 12 matching wall lights of equally impressive proportions. The work took a total of 18 months to complete.

  12 branch Adam

  A 12 branch Adam style chandelier with 6 heavy cut solid S arms with pan and nozzle to hold candles. 6 kick arms with cut canopies and spikes. Majority of metalwork finished in English gilt, savalls (to hold candles) and metal tubing for central shaft stem pieces are finished in silver plate. Dressed with link pear drop stands and various sized pear drop pendants.

  Two tier 12 branch Adam

  Many of the Adam chandeliers that Wilkinson produce have two tiers with the lower arms holding candles and the upper tier features the distinctive spikes. This example however is unique in that it has two clearly definable tiers. It also features the neo-classical inspired urns and pear pendants.

  16 branch Adam style

  A beautifully cut 16 branch chandelier with 8 S arm branches electrified with tall tapered French candles and 8 kick arms with spikes. Features a large central urn stem piece with metalwork finished in English gilt.

  18 branch Grey Adam

  A large Adam with 9 arms wired with tall tapered French candles and 9 kick arms holding canopies and spikes. Crystal glass is tinted grey in colour and features the Robert Adam inspired Greek urn shape in the central shaft. Top canopy has strands of link pear drops which swag to the top of the spikes. Metalwork is finished in English gilt.

  18 branch Heveningham Adam

  Produce for Hevingham Hall, Suffolk in 2002. The 18 branches consist of 9 kick arms with spikes and 9 S arms wired with tall tapered French candles. All crystal stem pieces, arms, pans, canopies, nozzles and spikes were handcut by Wilkinson’s. Traditionally dressed with link pear strands and pear drop pendants.

  18 branch three tier Adam

  An impressive Adam style chandelier arranged over 3 tiers. Bottom receiver plate holds lower tier of 6 S arms and Middle tier of 6 kick arms, all wired with tall tapered French candles. Top receiver plate located in the middle of the shaft holds 6 kick arms with canopies and spikes.
