Our Windsor style lanterns are a popular design due to their traditional form typical of the late 18th, early 19th century. This solid brass hexagonal lantern features scrolled metalwork and is a larger version of our standard sized Windsor lantern. Normally they are fitted with a single tier 6 light pendant fitting, however for this particular lantern the client required a greater output to light the staircase in which it would hang, so we created a more decorative 2 tier 12 light inner pendant. In addition at the bottom of the central pendant there is a low voltage capsule lamp which has been added to act as an emergency light.

In the mid 18th century, the components of lead crystal chandeliers became more heavily cut and featured star-shaped drip pans, notched arms and more detailed stem pieces. Top and bottom canopies and pear-shaped drops were added. The reproduction chandelier shown is one of a suite manufactured in the 1970’s to replace those lost in a fire at the Governor’s Mansions in Williamsburg. The style is typical of the period 1750-60.
